Our Story

crux-mate began with a simple observation: young people were leaving school without understanding how to manage money. While they could solve complex equations, many struggled with basic budgeting or understanding how interest works.

Founded in Cardiff in 2018, we set out to change that. Our team of educators and financial professionals developed programmes that make money management engaging, practical, and relevant to young lives.

Today, we work with families, schools, and community groups across Cardiff to ensure every young person has the opportunity to build a strong financial foundation.

What Drives Us

Our core beliefs shape everything we do

Accessibility First

Financial education should be available to every young person, regardless of background. We offer subsidised places and work with schools to reach those who need it most.

Practical Application

Theory alone does not build habits. Every concept we teach connects to real-world scenarios young people actually encounter, from pocket money decisions to part-time job earnings.

Building Confidence

Money can feel intimidating. We create a supportive environment where questions are welcomed and mistakes become learning opportunities, building financial confidence that lasts.

Our Approach to Teaching

We believe that children learn best when they are actively involved. Our workshops are never lectures. Instead, they feature simulations, group challenges, and discussions that bring financial concepts to life.

Each session is designed with specific learning outcomes in mind, yet flexible enough to address the questions and interests that naturally arise.

  • Interactive simulations and role-play scenarios
  • Age-appropriate language and examples
  • Small groups for meaningful participation
  • Take-home activities for continued learning
